Lake Barrington Woods

My mother is happy there and that is the number one point. Those people are super friendly and will bend over backwards to help you. The food is good and they offer a lot of activities for the residents. My mother says it is always clean. They are doing a lot of remodeling right now. Mom got sick there for a while and the nurses were Johnny- on-the-spot.

Management is always on top of their communications and keep everyone informed of what's going on. The care staff make the residents their priority and they're on top of things. My mom uses the transportation and it works great for her. Housekeeping is consistent and they're on top of it as well. Right now they're going through some major renovations so I know it's hard to keep the hallways totally clear and spotless but they're doing a good job through it all. There are a good number of activities and they're all day and every day. All in all, my parents are loving it there.

The healthcare staff have taken really good care of my mom and she's done really well there. Management has been pretty responsive and maintenance does a good job. There was a flood in her room from a pipe burst and they weren't very good about keeping me updated on the status and making sure they were keeping up with their target dates.

Management has always helped when I've needed it and maintenance always comes when I call for something. My mom doesn't do any of the activities but from what I've seen available it's fine.

Management does a good job of running the community and a pretty good job of communicating. They are responsive when there are questions. The service in the dining room is great and this community does their best with the food. The activities are good. They have a wide variety and they do a good job providing lots of everything. Housekeeping is prompt and timely. They do a good job. The place is clean and they don't miss things. If they do miss something, they come back and fix it. Maintenance is responsive and prompt. They do a good job keeping the building clean and in working order. There have been a couple of things that needed attention beyond the regular maintenance man. There was a plumbing issue that took a while to figure it out. They stayed on it and got it fixed. The caregivers have been right on top of stuff. My parents have very excellent care. It is a great place to live and the staff does a super job.

The front-of-house team is great, and has been for the five years mom has been there. Karen at the front desk does a fabulous job getting to know residents and families and their needs. She visited my mom in the hospital yesterday, off the clock, that's going above and beyond. Mike, the Director, goes out of his way to be visible, dancing with residents, helping them. He is not a behind-the-desk manager. The dining room has excellent staff too. It was good before, but now it's even better. Based on what my mom tells me, she likes the food there, and the wait staff goes out of their way to help. They get to know the residents and adapt to what they like. Jessica stands out. She is approachable, visible, makes sure everyone is happy; she is basically all you'd want in a server. She goes above and beyond for residents and families. The Activities Director is excellent, goes above and beyond, knows what people like, and has something scheduled every day, even weekends. She really does everything, she does a great job. We have never had a complaint with her, ever. We have never had a problem with transportation. The driver is consistently the same gentleman, and he does a good job. He gets her inside to her appointments safely, he's always on time for pickups, and does a great with safety. I've been in the vehicles; they're fine, clean, and in good condition. Tom in maintenance is a standout, he's everywhere and gets everything done, he's like three people. Housekeeping is always on time, responsible, and efficient. My son accidentally left cash in her room, and housekeeping turned it in to the front desk. So honest and nice. I think the price is fair, right where we're at right now. Mom is safe and comfortable, they are that good.

I think you get more for your money there as far as apartments go, size and closet space. I think she's spending less compared to other facilities popping up all over the place, and everything they provide, the transportation and activities. I think the value is good for what you get, I feel it's a safe building and secure. Management has always been there for me and been supportive, guiding me along the way and answering questions, they're just very supportive and there to give me answers, they're always available. I think they have a nice variety of activities and a nice variety based on IL versus AL depending on where they are in old age and what they're capable of doing and the two girls that organize the activities are awesome. The healthcare staff was always there for my mother. They checked her vitals whenever she didn't feel good, they were very accommodating.

I've eaten there when I've been there visiting my aunt, and the meals are very good. My aunt has to be transported to the doctor and dentist sometimes and they take care of that very well. We live in Oregon and cannot go there to take her. They handle all that very nicely for us. When we have visited, the overall appearance of the community inside and out is excellent. When we've been there to visit her apartment is clean, she's clean, and her clothes are clean. The care givers are excellent. Whenever anything happens to her, I always get a call. I definitely would recommend it, it's a high value.

The managers are very good, attentive to any questions, and very helpful. They treat everyone on a case by case basis. I find them very accommodated to questions or issues we've had. They consider my father as a person, not just a resident. Lots of residents enjoy the activities, and it seems like there's lots to do. They seem happier than normal. I think the cleaning is good. Dad really likes Josefina, the housekeeper who cleans his room. Right now they're remodeling. The community has always been clean and taken care of. Now that they're updating everything, it's looking really good and fresh. I know dad’s had little issues and has been happy with the maintenance he gets from Thomas, and Alex who is the newest member of the maintenance team. They're very responsive; they come up right away to fix any problems. Dad’s very happy with it. I know dad has talked to people he used to go to high school with or family members he hasn’t seen in a while, and he always speaks highly of Lake Barrington Woods. I like it, I enjoy going there, and I enjoy seeing the residents because everyone is friendly. Everything seems good, everyone seems happy to be there.

After almost six years there, I would say the value is still very good. It's definitely a very good community and a very good situation for my mom. The activities seem fine, there's a variety for people to partake. Mom's apartment is good, someone is in once a week for light cleaning and it seems to be fine. The building is excellent, inside and outside, the community is well maintained and always clean. She is comfortable there, and mom is safe.
