Locust Grove Personal Care & Memory Care

The housekeeping and maintenance are excellent, they're above and beyond the call of duty. The restaurant looks like it's set up on a cruise ship. He's enjoying it all. It's excellent. Overall, he is well taken care of at Locust Grove.

Other places are so much more money and it's the best one I've seen so far. I've been very happy with the management team and the healthcare staff are very nice and friendly when we go there. My sister is always clean, her bedding is clean, her clothes are nice, there are no problems with that.

If I wasn't happy with Locust Grove, my mom wouldn't be there 7 years, so I am very happy that she feels safe and comfortable at the community. The healthcare staff is great. The place is kept very neat and when I am up there for meals, it's perfect. We go up there for functions and I'd say the food is very good and although I don't know about the daily menu, when I ask her with what she has had, it's always something different and 9 times out of 10, it's something she liked. The other great thing is that she is in and out of dining in like 45 minutes, so I know they serve them right away.

It was a difficult decision to put mom in a community and she just loves everyone there. She can be a little bit snarky but talks to everybody. The staff has taken to her. We just moved her to a private room which made the situation better. They have activities where kids come in to sing, crafts, and the hair dresser have all been very good. They keep up with housekeeping regularly, always sweeping, and even on weekends they are cleaning. The care givers are fantastic. We're very pleased. It's close to us, and it's been a very good experience.

I looked at a lot of places, and Locust Grove is within 3 miles of the house my parents lived in since 1951. I liked the programs, the building, and the people. Also, my sister could move in across the hall from my parents. The managers have been responsive and available. I think they do what they can, making adjustments to any attention sister or my parents get. My parents love the food and so does my sister, though she is picky. I ate there once and I was suitably impressed with the food. It’s nutritious, properly presented, and the waiters and waitresses are very caring and responsive to their needs. John and John, the maintenance guys, they've been great. My dad got an award, and John, not the head guy, came in and saw it, and offered to hang it. He didn’t even need to be called, that's loving your job. The hallways are clean, the outside is cared for, and snow is always cleaned away. John, the head of maintenance, does the driving. He's driven my sister and my parents separately to various doctor's appointments. I actually met him for one of my mother's appointments. I can't say enough. My sister is stubborn, we thought we'd get pushback, but John drove her to the doctor, went in and stayed with her, and drove her back. She sings his praises to everyone, even Lisa the Executive Director, now. He should be illegal, he's so good. The van is in excellent condition. Housekeeping has been very good. Cleaning is regular and done well, and laundry is done properly. We made sure names are on all the clothes. . Looking at the calendar the activities seem to be diverse and interesting. My parents I know played bingo once. My dad won, and he's the only male in the room. My sister went to get her nails done, my mother got her hair done, they were both pleased. I like Joe who is in charge of activities, he tries to get everyone involved. Back in the 1970's I used to inspect nursing homes and senior communities, so I knew what I was looking for, and we’re satisfied with the apartments and the value we’re getting.

I chose Locust Grove for my aunt because I've had prior experience with the community. My father was at Locust Grove for a couple of years and I had an aunt there for about 10 years as well, and both of those experiences were really good. I think it's an excellent value for the service that we get and everything is good, with plenty of amenities there likes a microwave and toaster. We brought some more old furniture and bought new furniture too, so it's a very comfortable unit that she has now. While she is just getting introduced to the care, I have had a number of conversations with the Head Nurse there and she was very attentive, caring and wonderfully professional. Regarding maintenance, she complained at first that the room wasn't warm enough, but they brought the heat thermometer to test the heat and they were very attentive towards that, so that was very sweet. Plus, I think the building is impressive. It's fresh looking, neat and the sidewalks are clean, so it's really a fine looking community. I wasn't sure if she would take to activities, but she has and there seems to be plenty of them offered. I see the daily schedule and there is plenty of things, so the activities offered have been very good for the residents. Regarding management, I felt he bent over backwards to make sure everything happened, with reassuring me and my aunt, so he's wonderful. When I ask my aunt about the food, she says it's fine and I, too, have also had a couple of lunches there and they have been very good. I also think the service is excellent because there is plenty of them and they're attentive, so they're very good. Overall, she feels safe and comfortable at the community.

My mother really enjoyed being there and we enjoyed it too. Management was always accessible to us, any problem, no matter how big or small, they always made time to address and solve. My mother loved the food there. One of the selling points why we chose Locust Grove was because of the dining experience, it seemed so homey. It was a beautiful room, very homey, she had a wonderful roommate. They wore my mother out. That's one of the reasons we wanted her to move to a personal care home was so she could have more social interactions and they provided it. Maintenance was very helpful and the building is beautiful. The healthcare staff were never disrespectful and when we were there, they would respond to any requests that we had.

For the work that Locust Grove does, while it isn't cheap, it's been worth it for my uncle's safety. When we first put him there, I told the person in administration that all I needed from them was to respect him and keep him safe, and they do that, so they meet all of my expectations so far. Management is very accessible and if you leave a message, they'll back to you, or someone else down the line will get back to you. They also take the time to talk to you and they don't have an attitude that they're better than you. I think the dining department does a fine job because the food is warm and it looks good on the plate. The people who hand out the food are also very sweet and I have noticed a lot of the people know the residents names, so I appreciate that because it's very respectful and very nice. Regarding activities, I do see they have Bingo and they play all kinds of games in the common area, so they try to do a lot to get the residents to engage with one another. In terms of cleanliness, the housekeeping department is very good. One of the things when we were looking for a place is that I knew if a place smelled like urine at 1PM, it probably smells all the time, but when we walked into Locust Grove, there was nothing like that. There isn't stuff in the hallways, the floors aren't sticky, the bathrooms are in good shape and the apartments are perfect jus the way they are. They're sort of minimal, but it lends very well for the residents to go out and get in connect with other residents, rather than stay in their rooms. They also decorate the building on the inside for the holidays and on the outside, I see the man cutting the lawn or trimming hedges during the summer, so it's beautiful inside and out. Regarding his care, I think the staff does a really good job and they really seem to care. As far as clinical jobs, they hand out the medications on time, they know the residents by name and I see them all at different times, so they all do a heck of a good job. I myself am a Nurse and I couldn't do their job, so overall it's been a great experience for my uncle.

The room my loved one was in was nicely done. She enjoyed the dining and attended all the activities. I always thought her room was nice and clean when I was there. The maintenance was very helpful with anything we needed.

I think the value received for my sister is fair. The food was terrible where my sister was before but this food is decent, I think it's very good. I had dinner there and it was excellent. She participates in a lot of the activities and the transportation and housekeeping services are very good.
