The Breakers at Edgewater Beach

I chose the community because of convenience of transportation, the amenities and services here. The food is very good here and I'm going to join the fitness classes and make use of the pool as well. The housekeeping and nursing amenities here are excellent, it's great in the winter that I have doctors' appointments in the building. I think the price is fair for the value because you have a lot of amenities here, I'm very proud to be here, I love this place, it's great.

I think the community is excellent. It is a good value. The food is excellent. That was one of my biggest fears was it was going to be hospital food and it is very good. I do the fitness center and pool in the morning. Those are my two big activities so far and they are excellent. I haven't had any problems with my apartment as is.

I really like the sales person, Kristen. Adam, in the dining room, has sat down with my mom who is gluten and dairy free. He is helpful to her. The servers are kind, nice and accommodating. The activities are pretty good and the housekeeping is going pretty well. Transportation is also going pretty well. There are some shining stars in the community such as Kristen, the sales person, Adam, in the dining room, the servers, and Blanca, the housekeeper.

I think it is a good value. My father does water aerobics once or twice a week and he does go on the bus to different events so they keep him active. I think overall the place is well maintained. It seems like the food is adequate, I don't think he has any major problems with it, they seem to be able to accommodate to his needs. He's eating all the meals and getting all the services he's paying for so right now I think it's good.

I’ve been here a couple years and the food is pretty good. The activities are okay, I don’t have any complaints. Housekeeping and maintenance are very good.

I am very pleased with the activities; I am very pleased so far. I haven’t participated in any of the outings yet, I have only been here about seven months, but they look good. I cannot complain about the meals here. Where I was before not all meals were included, so I think that is very much a plus. Apartment cleaning is fabulous, my housekeeper is a doll, and she is wonderful. She strips my bed and makes it for me. The building looks nice, and I love the view I have, I look right out over Lake Michigan so it's very pleasant and calming, and very interesting. I feel very safe and comfortable here.

I think the price is fair with all the benefits we have. I felt the raise to our rent this year and last year were in line. They were not exuberant. The dining is almost all the time excellent. Adam, in the kitchen, has met with me to work with my special diet. That is a big help. He works with the other residents too. For the most part I can eat pretty adequately and what I am supposed to eat. The dining room is excellent and the servers are wonderful. Our servers work hard and are very good. Our new dining room manager has been a big help. He and Adam are working as a team and things have been better. The activities are fantastic. I am going to put my housekeeper, Maria, encased in gold, on a pedestal. She is wonderful and is very good. I appreciate everything that the housekeepers do. They come in and sanitize things, empty the garbage and make my bed. The maintenance man came and repaired my bathtub. They got it done and you can't even tell now. You see maintenance around all the time and they are nice and polite to everybody. The bus driver is very good and they have worked hard to substitute drivers when they need to. We have very good staff at this community. Whenever I have had a problem, I just call the concierge and they take care of it.

In the six years my mom lived there I thought the Breakers was beautiful. I think they do good with the activities. I was the one who started enjoying the Breakers at the end of it. The housekeeping was good; Charlene was good. When we would call the maintenance staff would come right away. The community was beautiful. Waking up looking at the lake was beautful. Seeing the lights at night was beautiful. I think it is very nice and I am glad she was able to experience it.

I selected it for both of my parents for the activities and the library four years ago. I'm also 15 minutes from there. My father was visually impaired and there are a lot of musical activities, a wide variety of musical programs. He passed since moving in, it’s just mom now. There are lots of activities always going on, they're doing a fine job. For dinners there's three options, they offer a three or four course dinner, it's really nice. I do think The Breakers does offer a lot of different ways to get involved. I think it offers a lot from nook clubs, to shopping, the crafts, to helping around the community, I think that's all great.

My sister has thanked us many times for making the move and advising her to go there, she's very happy living in the community, she's made a lot of friends and she's active and I think she feels secure; there's someone she can call. It sounds to me like they've got a lot of different activities; my sister seems to be participating in a lot of things. We looked at a lot of places and I think for both the location and value it's a very good middle class solution to a very expensive problem, it really serves a good middle class community.
